Random Compilations 2013/14 

Recognition is influenced by context.

When we do not immediately recognize something, our mind searches in our private memory bank for information that can fill the gap.

We have a natural tendency to search for connections. When there is uncertainty the brain looks for something it recognizes. If it can’t find anything it revisits previously seen and archived data to construct meaning.

The works in the series ‘Random Compilations’ are made up of 60 to 90 transparent layers of discarded digital images. The stacking occurs according to the order in which the images present themselves in the computer’s trashcan.

What a viewer perceives in the resulting images depends on the context in which they are viewed and the content of one’s own memory data bank.
